ABOUT

This course covers the content for Senior 4, Term 2 of the Ugandan National Curriculum focusing on the Trends in periodic table and the Energy Changes in chemical reactions. The main themes explored in this term include:

Periodicity

This theme focuses on understanding the systematic trends in the physical and chemical properties of elements as organized in the periodic table. It also highlights the predictable behaviors of simple compounds formed by these elements and delves into the distinctive properties of Group 1 elements (alkali metals), including their reactivity and characteristic trends. You will appreciate the periodic table as a tool for predicting chemical behavior and understanding the diversity of elements and their compounds.

Thermochemistry

This theme focuses on how energy changes occur during chemical reactions, distinguishing between exothermic and endothermic processes. It highlights the role of chemical bond energy, the practical significance of these reactions in daily life, and the burning of fuels as a key exothermic example. You will also explore the concept of heat of reaction and use energy profiles to understand these transformations.
